"View of Delft"

After a great deal of thought about what scene to use behind the windows in the studio, it occurred to me that I need look no further than Vermeer's own "View of Delft." Vermeer's version appears at the left.

Revising the "View of Delft"

I needed a much wider version for the roombox, so I used Photoshop to copy Vermeer's "View," add sections on to it and even reverse it. I combined these pieces together to make a wider background. To extend the length, I painted more water with acrylic paints.

I mounted my "View" in the rounded extension to the box that George Burgess created (we rounded the edges of the extension so the viewer didn't see any "corners"). We installed a light fixture at the bottom of the extension so the light would shine up between the "View" and the windows.
